When management *enables* the people they manage, that's when you create an environment that fosters ideas, creativity and energy. When they care more about putting limits/give decisions to _prevent_ people from messing up, that's when they kill everything.
Why do we hire "smart" people if then we don't trust them? If you are hiring smart people, give them the freedom to improve their company, the processes that govern the daily work and their products.
Don't put limits just to _prevent_ mistakes. Those are going to happen anyway, we all are humans before being professionals. The important thing is that we learn from those mistakes trying to fix/improve what went wrong.
Give a good idea to a mediocre team, and they will screw it up. Give a mediocre idea to a great team, and they will either fix it or come up with something better.
Start limiting the great team, and you will loose both the team and the opportunity to transform that idea in something successful.
Do not fall for the illusion that by preventing errors, you won't have errors to fix. The truth is, the cost of preventing errors is often far greater than the cost of fixing them.
