Happy anniversary of the day my ex-boss thought he could disappear me and nobody would notice.
Worked out fine for me, but not for a society that has fewer reliable sources of information and fewer voices in the public square.
This anniversary & the recent departure of @melissamcgurren from The Mix is raising painful memories. I don’t know her, but I wish her well.
Radio is hard. Commercial radio is especially hard on women: stereotyped, pigeonholed, paid less than the guy who’s getting credit for your ideas. You’re told constantly just to be grateful to be there.
Here’s what I’m grateful for now: getting lucky enough to find a new home left of the dial & working with people who value my voice. It is possible to do better if only people will see the point in trying.
