It’s starting!!! Updates to come after the presentation but updates to the CDC STI Guidelines @CDCSTD #IDtwitter
The current state of Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, primary and secondary Syphilis, Congenital Syphilis, and the effect of COVID-19 on STI testing
The roles of clinicians in STI prevention, the purpose of the guidelines as well as the major themes, and the importance of STI vs STD (infection refers to an organism infecting an individual whereas disease refers to a clinical process and as we know many STIs are asymptomatic)
Yaaaaas is my reaction to everything here with respect the guidance on Prevention!!! Please say someone else shares my enthusiasm...
The importance of screening in special populations more vulnerable to STIs (very happy to see the inclusion of transgender and gender diverse individuals)
Herpes recommendations here, we have herpes here!
Syphilis updates, of note no need for repeat CSF exam at 6 months with adequate RPR response in neurosyphilis. Also note the definitions of inadequate serologic responses of RPR (the most common call I receive)
LGV updates, duration of treatment is important but more research coming down the line
Urethritis with mention that N meningitis urethritis exists (can be passed throat oral intercourse). Doxycycline recommended first line with azithromycin alternative for non-gonococcal urethritis! And things to consider with persistence or recurrence include TV and Mgen!
