@BlountStrib Love your piece on Gopher stadium name change. Reaffirmed my objection to corporate name sporting facility for this reason. I advocated naming stadium after Sandy Stephens. Now Detroit formerly Cobo Hall will have 3rd name change because of TCF. Changing it 1)
2) ... from one of the most racist mayors in Motown history was good move, naming it after a bank wasn't. Finally my personal stylebook don't allow use of corporate named stadiums in my columns whether locally or nationally. Buildings should be named after honorable people
3) ... not the highest bidder. UM, Twins, Wolves et al joined long list of sellouts in this regard. Don't fault companies who ponied up millions for essentially free ads whenever their name is referenced in stories. As I told a current UM officer years ago when asked why ...

5) ... Sandy Stephens, Rod Carew, Tony Oliva, Kwame McDonald, Paul Wellstone, Al Kaline, Willie Horton any no. of historical folk worthy of lasting legacy with the name forever affixed on a stadium or arena. Rather than a bullseye, bank name or utility bill
