ok so im seeing a split tl right now so im gonna share my thoughts:

misha writing that article years ago was king shit. yall weren’t there, she was public enemy no.1 and the media was RELENTLESS. almost no one was in her corner. 1/

misha calling out that misogynistic bullshit in a relatable way was GOOD. almost everyone can relate to having an idol or someone they get star struck by. they can picture the possibility of themselves being taken advantage of in a similar position. 2/

that’s all well and good. we love that about misha.

BUT
we’re also here for the jokes. we’re here for the camaraderie amongst ourselves. we’re in our little corner having fun. from what i saw no one was tagging. trending, sure, but not highly. it was clear it was in jest 3/

the blame of this going mainstream is on the mainstream news outlets picking it up and running. for clicks. for money. profiting off of our jokes and good time and spinning it to make us look crazy (again) so they can line their pockets with clicks and ad revenue 4/

THAT is the behavior that i’m disgusted with, and what we should be disgusted with. don’t be mad at your moots for taking part in the joking discourse bc we’re here for ourselves and that was between us. mainstream came to our corner and dragged it to the light with their spin 5/

& i’m sick of it. we’re not actually crazy enough to think those jokes are true. it was all in good fun. and then we got pulled into this spotlight and shamed. i’m not about it and i don’t wanna see us slinging mud at each other over it. 6/

be mad at the mainstream news that had to drag it to light. don’t engage with them, but be aware that it’s insidious and will likely happen again. have your (untagged!!) fun. joke with your moots. it’s not our responsibility to frame our discourse when it’s amongst us. 7/7
