The Texas Supreme Court has finally awarded wrongful conviction compensation to Alfred Dewayne Brown! Dewayne was exonerated and freed from death row after it was discovered that a prosecutor had covered up evidence that proved his innocence.
The wrongful conviction compensation process has been a long road for Dewayne. TX AG Ken Paxton improperly intervened in the process in an effort to block payment. The TX Supreme Court overrode all of that and approved compensation for the 12+ years Dewayne spent on death row.
While no amount of money could ever make up for the terror and injustice of spending more than a decade on death row for a crime that he did not commit, I know that this compensation will help Dewayne in the process of rebuilding and moving forward in his life.
