wow i should just do the dps stories right
when the kilroys was started, the director of professional licensing came into my office to say that this gender fixation was ridiculous, women are also artistic directors so if women aren't getting produced it's their fault too

this 50s+ man, with a salary almost double mine at the time, threw a box of slides from projection design at my head because they were our only copy to give theaters and i was responsible for it, and he had taken them and i requested their return
we had a meeting with a major new mid-20s woman writer, hottest play of the year, and the three white men in the room w me only said, they couldn't believe someone so young had written such a good play, and then asked abt her bf (also a playwright) for 20 min
when the Israel Horovitz story broke, pres called an emergency directors meeting bc dps publishes him, in which he said this is not an emotional issue, we weren't taking sides & would do nothing, but maybe we wouldn't publish any new work (maybe)
the real reason for the meeting was bc there's a known playwright abuser on the dps board & he wanted to have a statement prepared if any new stories came out about that man
dps basically stopped acquiring new/emerging american plays ca. 2015 (with the new pres), because he only wanted british writers and tony winners.
basically every single cool/poc play that didn't come straight from mtc was a personal lobbying project for its acquisition

you can see their catalogue, it's not even a secret, it's just that no one thinks about publishers as part of the industry even though royalties are actually what allows writers income
omg they canceled snow days because the pres (who lives on the uws) has no problem getting to the office so no one else should either (unless you take a vacation day)
the director of nonpro licensing (who recently got a raise and promotion btw) has published like 30 vanity projects with his name as editor, except he literally didn't do shit for those books and i/my dept did everything
he sits on facebook all day while his minimum-wage assistants do all the data entry he's too lazy to
every assistant there works twice as hard as every director and makes basically minimum wage while directors make in the hundred ks
(not me tho, i was young and female so I only made 60-70k; my contract there expired in 2019 and they lied to me abt my future pay, i kept working without a contract till i realized)
the only thing that's been making them any money since PRE pandemic is the subscription book box, which was my pet project and maintained by 1 other person after i left, whose job is now in jeopardy bc the sale
