Here's my Yuletide theory for you all. It's called "The Secret Ally."

Assume for a second that the Obama/Clinton Russia "reset" actually worked...

From the perspective of both the United States and of Russia, in the context of China and a potential world war with China, why would you want to make it known that the United States and Russia repaired relations?

Why make this obvious?

Rather, what better why to leverage Russia as an ally to the US, the Five Eyes, etc. against China than to have Russia continue to appear hostile to the United States, and as a likely Chinese ally?

Russia could be pretending to be more friendly w/China than they actually are.

Then if there was ever an escalation between China and India, etc. or a war with North Korea, China would be basing all of their national security planning on a false assumption that Russia would never join with the west, like they did during WW3.
