I’ve been thinking a lot recently about how I felt in the immediate aftermath of the 2016 election.

After the 2016 election, it seemed inconceivable that Trump had won fairly. It seemed obvious that Russian interference had contributed to his win, which in my mind, made it illegitimate.

During that time I looked to HRC and Barack Obama for hope - and got none. It was crushing.

Honestly, if either Obama or Clinton had said the election was illegitimate, or that it was rigged, or that Trump didn’t win fairly....I would’ve been all in. Protests, demonstrations, brainstorming ways to prevent Trump from taking his fake win.

Fortunately, they didn’t say those things, and the transition went smoothly.

But thinking back on this, and on HOW MUCH I wanted Clinton to win, I feel some sympathy for folks who REALLY wanted Trump to win and are now being fed false hope by their authority figures.

Obama and Clinton could have riled a mob in 2016. They didn’t, perhaps because they have more investment in the fabric of Democracy than Trump does. But if they had, it’s rhetoric & actions would’ve looked a lot like the Trump mob we see today.
