Further thought: my advice to people who ask me about law school is to work before. Either try something "law," to see if it's ok for you, or try the non-law thing you think you might like. Because once you start down this path, it is hard to turn the ship around 1/ https://twitter.com/RMFifthCircuit/status/1339958673360220166
I didn't work in between. I probably should have. Though I did get a history graduate degree and thus confirm my alternative idea of becoming a history professor was The Dumb.

The costs of doing law are high enough that you should give yourself an off-ramp /2
Yes, I'm super-happy with what I do *now*. But what I do now is an ultra-niche practice that is hard to get into. And there are many scenarios and paths where it would have been better had the potential law student done something else.

Anyway, that's my advice.
Oh, addendum: Yes, there are some people who have always wanted to be a lawyer. Great! Go for it. This advice is for the other people.
And I hate to law and economics you, but the 3 years of law school are a tremendous opportunity cost. Don't forget that. You're going to spend (up to) X hundred thousand dollars and THREE YEARS of your shortish life prepping for this career.
There are a *lot* of things you can do with that sort of money and time commitment. I'm not saying they all end up with you doing better than being a lawyer, but if you spend 60 hours a week of 3 years of your 20s (say) doing something else, that can bear some fruit too!
