Why you should be a WARRIOR in garden?

A student asked to his master:

"You teach me fighting but you talk about peace. How do you reconcile the two?"

The master replied:

" It's better to be warrior in garden than to be a gardener in war.”

You might say that someone who is incapable of cruelty is a higher being than someone who is capable of being cruel.

It’s dangerously incorrect because:

If you aren’t capable of cruelty, you are absolutely a victim to someone who is.
It’s impossible respect yourself until you grow teeth.

If you grow teeth you realize you’re somewhat dangerous.

And then you might be more willing to demand that you treat yourself with respect and other people do the same thing.
What it means is, being able to be cruel and then not being cruel is better than not being able to be cruel.

In first case, you’re nothing but weak and naive...

In the second case you’re dangerous, but have it under control.
Some form of tyranny is necessary to bring order to the chaos.

But...

Too much of tyranny leads to rebellion.

Too little of tyranny leads to disobedience.

A balance must be struck.
A king should be kind and yet possess some touch of ruthlessness.

For if not, his subjects will use him up and his enemies will tear him apart.

He must be able to be the father-figure to his empire and a formidable foe to his enemies,

One they dare not upset.
