Welp Happy Holiday's from SCOTUS with a mess of a decision on the census this morning

Here's the opinion.

https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/20pdf/20-366_7647.pdf
By a 6-3 vote the Court says the challenge to the administration's efforts to exclude undocumented folks from the census is premature.

Breyer leading the liberals, says nope its not AND trying to exclude undocumented folks is unlawful. It's an excellent dissent frankly
What the Court's majority DIDN'T do is bless the administration's efforts to exclude undocumented folks on the merits. That is a good thing!

But they didn't toss that effort out on its ass. That is a bad thing!
Today's decision works as a punt on the administration's arguments that undocumented people should not count in the census. And that leaves the door open for FUTURE conservative administrations to relitigate that question
What does that mean for the census which is supposed to be completed....in a matter of weeks? Well it's all a mess. But basically the Court said it doesn't know if the Census Bureau actually can count the non-citizens, get that to Trump, and have apportionment happen in time
That's the basis of the Court's standing/ripeness conclusion.

SO

If Wilbur Ross can in fact cook the numbers AND the Trump Administration tries to move forward with apportionment my guess is you'll see a new lawsuit from the ACLU saying nope that's mess is unconstitutional
