a long time ago, when david petraeus was in iraq being widely hailed by media as a military genius who made the surge work, a journalist whose name i don't recall did something interesting: they made a copy of petraeus' schedule for a week just based on time he gave to the press.
it became immediately clear that between his well-documented running regiment and all the interviews he was granting throughout the day, there was very little time at all remaining for him to actually do any of the army stuff he was nominally there to do.
petraeus was on tv every day in full military regalia talking about how the surge was working and dropping other standard counter-insurgency lies. he was the general in charge of that war for a while, and all he really did was use his position to effect american public opinion.
anyway, i'm thinking about fauci this morning.
