I'll turn this into quite a thread - something I rarely do. You see, when you believe you're politics are based in science, you believe your own delusion - that even your insults are perfectly moral, because after all, you are "merely stating a fact." https://twitter.com/KatieHill4CA/status/1339326198409793543
Watching a bunch of Democratic politicians back up what O'Malley Dillion said shows you all you really need to know about their pitch for "unity." Agree with us, then we can finally have unity.
But back to the point:
A few weeks ago, I ran across a tweet that really gets people into the Christmas spirit: "Jesus was a refugee." I wasn't surprised to see it, but what's worse, as I wasn't surprised that it came from a person that also thinks that religion...

shouldn't influence politics. As if religion is only acceptible in politics when it happens to back up leftist political priors.

effectuating their political program.
But their own failure to grapple with this hipocracy reveals their self-congragulatory view of their own politics. "Decency isn't political," they might say. To them, their politics are "scientific." They believe they have "solved" politics

Their political program will bring about the end of history, their policy preferences are "scientific" and thus unfalsifiable. And if you disagree with them, you are an unscientific, unreasonable, and even a "f**ker." By doing this, they have turned any policy disagreement with
them into an assault in "science." (Which these days is often bent to the will of progressives)
This is a fundamental, philosophocal misunderstanding of politics. Politics has always dealt with human civilizations and their relationships to each other - of which science cannot

completely explain. Yes, this means making difficult choices about the policy over human suffering, like immigration or refugees. Because as much as progressives don't want to admit it, in every policy, there are trade offs.
This was I'll be a main reason why unity is so difficult in our modern politics. One side of the aisle has convinced themselves that their policies are so scientific, so moral, so pure, they simply aren't up for debate.
