On this day 30+ years ago I was diagnosed with diabetes and I would have been even more of a wreck than I was if Stacey from the Babysitters Club hadn't had it too.

A couple years later I saw Steel Magnolias and while it was cool that Julia Roberts played a diabetic like me, the outcome was... not great.

I have lived through more than 30 years of concern trolling, when people who have absolutely no idea about how I handle my disease tell me what I should and shouldn't eat or do.

I thought "Are you sure you should eat that?" was the worst thing to say to a diabetic until a few years ago when I realized that the actual worst thing is "that vial of insulin costs $350." #Insulin4all
