Real tired of the Treaty Rights of Freedmen being treated as an internal tribal matter. The hypocrisy in using those same Treaties in government to government federal court decisions and then saying those same Treaties hold no weight when it comes to our Treaty rights....
Our ancestors fought against their tribes and others in Civil War, shed their blood and WON. This issue is not on the Freedmen to fix it’s on the tribes that owned our ancestors as property and the Federal Government that neglected our Treaty rights.
And the whole Blood argument is nonsense because most Freedmen do have blood ties, because we intermarried in a small population and are all related to the same people.
It’s anti-black and gross as hell to ask us to prove our blood ties to Treaty signing, slave owning rapist white Natives that sold out their own people, when our ancestors already did!
If I can only be valid as Native to Southeastern Natives because one of my ancestors was a Treaty signing Chahollo, while my Freedmen family’s only history and culture was in the Chickasaw Nation in Mississippi and Indian Territory for centuries, y’all can keep that shit.
And the whole we want citizenship for benefits argument... there are no tribal benefits we could ever use that would come close to the amount of money extracted from our ancestors labor. Native people leased the people they owned to afford Removal on the Trail of Tears. Stop.
And many of those benefits are need based and only available to people that live in tribal boundaries. Saying poor Freedmen in the Nation who suffer from the legacy of genocide and slavery from your own tribe don’t deserve benefits is not the flex you think it is.
