To hear public health professionals with large platforms call the vaccine 95% effective, instead of distinguishing between efficacy and effectiveness, really concerns me.
Vaccine efficacy is how well the vaccine performs under ideal controlled circumstances of a trial. Vaccine effectiveness is how well it performs in the real world setting. Why is a difference expected? no one calling to ensure follow-up, less restrictions on pop recieving it, etc
For instance, my daughter does extremely well in virtual school when I'm sitting beside her watching (controlled setting, this would equate to efficacy), but how well does she do when I leave her alone to do the same thing on her own (this would equate to effectiveness)?
