in recent games, #CFC have found It really hard to create in open play apart from crossing into the box. This can be attributed to the unavailable of Hakim Ziyech due to injury. Since he came into the squad, he's proven to be a great creative addition despite the fact that he
hasn't hit the ground running yet. But that's not all to it. One major reason why why we've had to narrow down our game to one particular style of play recently is the presence of Oliver Giroud. As much as he contributes goals in almost all the game he has started, his presence
has also limited the movement of other players in and around the penalty box. Giroud is a target man, who's strong in the box, both with his feet and head. Playing him means virtually all attack ends with him. In the 5 games he has started, only one goal was scored from open play
by another player (Timo Werner's goal against #TOT in Carabao cup). As much as his presence in the starting 11 almost guarantees a conversion of at least one of the crosses into the box by the mostly the fullbacks, it also means there is limited space for players like Havertz,
Werner, Mount & Chilwell who love making late runs into the box. This is not to castigate Giroud, in fact, he's a great guy and adds another dynamics to our game but his lack of mobility and ability to draw out CBs from their position makes it very difficult for us to break down
defences except through crosses. That is where Tammy Abraham comes in. His finishes especially arially are obviously nowhere near that of Oliver Giroud but his presence allows others to play. Most times Tammy drops deep outside the box, to distribute balls, drag CB out and create
spaces for other team mates to operate. On countless occasion we saw Chilwell waiting at far post for lose balls to pounce on. Obviously, there are games we'll need a target man but we need to start killing off games even before the opponents wake up, we need to get our high
pressing back, we've not had that in recent games. It's either we get Tammy back in the starting 11 or we get Timo to play as our no 9 when our 2 wingers are back from injury, else our attack will continue to remain stiffed. We will enjoy playing with a target man if our game
plan is to sit deep, win the ball in our half, send long balls forward for our Target man to holdup and bring others into the game for a quick counter. But if we want to continue our high pressing game, pegging opponents in their half and blocking counter attacking routes, It's
best we play with mobile forwards who can switch and move around in the forward areas.
