Vocaloid is the 'book' of the music industry:
It all comes down to production. Movies, TV shows require a huge budget, the approval of different parties, the promise of getting back the costs by making profit. However, books can be written by one person, and you don't need half as much monitoring for an editorial to get on
board with your project.
Because of this, books will always have a broader freedom to delve into each and any idea. No matter how taboo, complex or unpopular. Books needn't be as palatable as television inevitably needs to be.

With vocaloid you have a similar situation.
While as an artist you would normally need to sign a contract with a label, work with producers, (or artists, if you are the producer) and create pieces that as per contract must produce benefit, that is not the case with vocaloid.

Some of the most iconic vocaloid songs were made by a single person with nothing but a computer and specialised software at their disposition.

theme becomes available.
Any genre, any topic, any composition can be found within vocaloid. On top of that, because digital vocalists don't breathe nor have limits to their vocal abilities, the possibilities there are to explore there are ones no real vocalist could replicate.

And finally there is recognition. Besides artist-producers within the industry, which are becoming rarer and rarer within the music industry, vocaloid is the opposite.
A vocaloid fan may prefer Miku's vocals, or Luka's, or Kaito's or those of many others to choose from.

But the true artists behind their songs are the producers: Wowaka, Powapowa-P, Pinocchio-P, Mitchie M, just to name a few of the legends in the industry.
When you hear a vocaloid song, you know who created that sound. You know who is getting the recognition they deserve.

It is not a piece that was produced by a nameless creator and then bought by a label for a famous name to perform. With vocaloid, listeners are directly connected to the geniuses responsible for what they listen.

This way, Vocaloid eliminates the visual bias that reigns wild
in the music industry. Appearance, age and background don't matter. Talent alone dictates whether a creator will be able to reach their audience. It is, in a way, one of the purest forms of music making I can imagine.
You could never explore the more niche themes of literature on-screen (at least not nowadays, not yet) just like you won't find vocaloid's niche innovation in most of traditionally produced music.
You may not really know who is behind a book, as in you won't know their faces if you cross them on the street. But just as with vocaloid producers you know what really matters, who is behind the media you consume, whose mind those words, stories and melodies came from.
And personally, I think that's priceless.
This YouTuber made a video essay about their experience with vocaloid and touches on many interesting ideas besides those I wrote about. They are very articulate and beautifully express themselves. I highly recommend it:
