The robots are coming! So say silicon capitalists & luxury communists. But are automation theorists are wrong about what's really going on? The brilliant @abenanav joins me on today's #NovaraFM to talk the future of work & building utopia. @ResonanceFM & @novaramedia , 1pm.
(One day we will automate my tweets and I won't put 'are' twice in a sentence. But today is not that day.)
One thing I really like about @abenanav's book is its attention not just to what automation theorists might be wrong about, but what they are right to grasp – that they are making political claims about the kind of future we might want to build, not just analyses of technology.
It's actually the political and speculative conclusions to the book which are most important in that sense. What kind of world are we trying to build – and who are the agents that can take us there? Is it still the classical industrial proletariat? Find out at 1pm, @ResonanceFM!
This comic - and the excellent thread - neatly encapsulates how global the problems addressed in the book are. https://twitter.com/krishraghav/status/1331180394687840256
