Apparently it’s #InternationalMigrantsDay and I feel weird writing anything celebratory about it given the continued reality of the #HostileEnvironment, so instead I will use this as a Thread 🧵 to highlight orgs and campaigns where you can donate to:
@JCWI_UK is the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants and probably one of the first orgs I got introduced to as I began to plan for staying in the U.K. for the long haul.
For staff and students alike, @UnisNotBorders have been incredible in their support, especially during this pandemic.
Similarly, @intnlandbroke has been doing a brilliant job at highlighting the financial burdens of being an migrant academic in the U.K.
Obviously we cannot discuss immigration without mentioning the violence of detention centres and those who are fighting against their continued use: @DetentionAction is a great example of this.
@EDeportations is similarly fighting for those criminalised for migrating.
@wallsmustfall is another great group to follow RE: ending deportations and the hostile environment in the U.K.
Groups such as @_KRAN_ and @PAFRAS_Leeds are doing incredible work in supporting asylum seekers and refugees
Given the harsh realities of being a migrant (particularly an undocumented one) during a global pandemic, orgs like @DocsNotCops are absolutely vital to the movement for migrant justice
Some additional regional groups: @YorksResists @SYMAAG @leedsnoborders (very much biased of course as I’m Yorkshire based!)
More groups to follow for migrant rights: @migrantsorg @MigrantVoiceUK @undoingborders
Campaigns for individuals facing deportation are sadly always going around, so be on the look out for those! Right now you can help out to stop the deportation of Osime Brown: @FreeOsimeBrown
And of course, be sure to follow migrants on Twitter who are very open about their struggles with the Hostile Environment and the Home Office: @DrFuraha_Asani @wawisloyola @nailyas_ @DimaChami @Bouri_D @paperghost @Right_to_Remain @ReuniteDivFamil
You can follow @ArchaeologyFitz.
Tip: mention @twtextapp on a Twitter thread with the keyword “unroll” to get a link to it.
