THREAD: Sometimes, all that is needed for #dwarfism and #disability discrimination to be effective is for it to send a signal that says:
This? This banal, every day thing here?
This is not for people like you.
Example: @SushiMeRollin1.

My partner & I both have #dwarfism.
We like sushi.
We were about to order with @SushiMeRollin1 when we realised the image accompanying the dish encouraged ridicule against bodies like ours, bodies like our baby daughter's.

For those with screen readers, the image for the Chef's Selection shows an avg height chef, concentrating on cooking; the image for the half Chef's Selection shows a dwarf man dressed as a chef, clearly intended as a joke. (Geddit? HALF chef? Cos he's HALF A CHE- Oh nevermind) 3/
We were saddened to realise people like us are considered objects of ridicule - and not as customers.
We were reminded of the challenge we'll face as parents when we inevitably have to help our daughter find her own way of understanding and navigating behaviour like this. 4/

For the genius who'll inevitably jump to claim the man in the pic "made a choice": sit down.
Such images fuel stereotypes and ridicule that makes it harder for the rest of us, who made different choices, to create our own image of ourselves.
That's what stereotypes do. 5/

Our Saturday night buzz suddenly quietened.
We opted for burgers instead, from a place we're welcome.
Instead of resorting to social media immediately, I sent them a private email.
They never replied. Maybe this and a Google review will get their attention. Maybe not. 6/

Finally, I can't help wondering what @StackNewcastle makes of this - I'd hope we'd be welcome in the rest of their venues. I can't imagine it chimes with their values or those of Danieli Holdings Ltd.
But what do I know? I'm just trying to get some Sashimi, innit?.

PS: I know they're not really on Twitter - I'm not on Insta, which I think is their main channel. But hopefully this is enough to make other people stop and think for a second.
I am tired.
