All our @UoBrisSPS peeps are SOooo ready to catch up on rest and family time. I'm lucky and honoured to work in such an amazing team. But I sadly reflect on the year feeling raw and dumbstruck by the disregard for student/staff welfare demonstrated time and again by @BristolUni
This is evidenced by: 1) deciding stop publishing cumulative totals of student and staff COVID infections;
2) confronted by @Bristol_SU concerns about on-campus teaching hours, instead of describing how TB1 timetables were approved at Faculty and Pro-VC office, instead the Uni blamed schools, pitting staff AGAINST students in this crucial time
3) reporting and information systems about where students were located and information flows on self isolation were SO poorly planned and executed, causing immense stress for School Office teams, right when clear access to this info was critical to enable student support
4) transparency around risk assessment procedures for staff and work spaces has had to be hard fought, and @Bristol_UCU along with Unite and other campus unions continues to push forward on this against a resistant and highly hesitant SMT who still claim safety comes first
I'll stop there for now. I just want to work for a @BristolUni that I feel proud of, that is my hope for 2021. Much has been learned, or fixed, but please know the wounds from this year run deep. Best wishes all. Goodness knows we need to rest up for whatever January holds.
I will remain forever grateful to that merry band of noisy Twitter folk across this great place who share my passion to see this University do better. @johnjoemctague @Prof_GD_Foster @rpancost @josiecgill @AAPiccini @Vicky_Canning @berglund_oscar @Lindsey_Pike and many many more.
