[1/8] Another example of the amazing people on #Medtwitter! @acweyand started a fundraiser to fight #FoodInsecurity, and the community already raising almost $84k in less than 3 days! Join this great cause by donating! I donated to @hungertaskforce #Wokefolk #HCWvsHunger https://twitter.com/acweyand/status/1339763628174692356
[2/8] @hungertaskforce is Milwaukee’s Free & Local food bank and Wisconsin’s #antihunger leader. They work to prevent #hunger and malnutrition by providing food to people in need today and by promoting social policies to achieve a hunger free community tomorrow.
[3/8] * In 2018, 1 in 11 Wisconsin households (8.9%) experienced low or very low food security. The #disparity in food insecurity between black and white households in Wisconsin is among the largest in the country.

* Before the #COVID19 crisis began, more than 35 million people, including nearly 11 million children, lived in a food-insecure households
[5/8] * Pre-pandemic data reflect the lowest food insecurity rates had been in more than 20 years, but the current crisis has reversed improvements made over the past decade since the Great Recession.
[6/8] * We need the #data to fight for #healthjustice. In this case, the data says that our most #VulnerablePopulations that already were affected disproportionally in terms of food security are being hit the hardest during the pandemic.
[7/8] * Before the pandemic, Black individuals were 2.4 times as likely to live in food-insecure households as White individuals (19.2% vs. 8.1%). This stems from centuries of #systematicracism that also have caused longstanding economic and #healthinequities
[8/8] *Before the pandemic, Latino individuals were almost 2x as likely to live in food-insecure households as non-Hispanic white individuals (15.8% vs. 8.1%).
*Systemic inequities that face communities of color are particularly visible during times of crisis.
