My visit to Pidong Crater Lake.
A THREAD.
The Pidong Crater Lake is a lake of wonders and has a lot of mystery attached to it.
As a child, I had heard a lot of stories concerning this lake and I decided to visit it someday. Last week, I got my chance 😁. I was in Kerang for a few days and got to visit it.
The Pidong Crater Lake is the only of it's kind in West Africa. It is located atop one of the Kerang Volcanoes in Ampang West, Mangu, Nigeria.
Legend has it that the area had a great civilization of giants who had lots of gold, but they were all destroyed in a "mysterious fire", which has been understood to be a volcanic eruption. That eruption caused the creation of the Pidong Lake.
It was a long walk from the main road (Kerang-Chakfem-Mushere Road) to the hill but it was worth it.
At the top, I was hit with one of the most beautiful views I had ever set my eyes on.
A paddling of ducks were camped on the lake. No one is allowed to swim there because according to the locals, YOU WILL DROWN.
There is a story of some Jukun explorers who wanted to "test the waters" by trying to fish in the lake. They haven't been heard of till date.
KAPISH!
The water from the lake is used in irrigating the farms around during the dry season.
Meanwhile, a love story atop the hill

We went down the hill, close to the lake, but this was the closest I could go.
The Pidong Crater Lake has a lot of tourism potential, and craves investors to invest in it.
This trip is one I won't forget.
