Listened in on a 'sales webinar' yesterday.

Obvious salespitch.

Cringeworthy.

But let me break it down for you in a thread.

👇
Guy opens with talking about how many salespeople struggle to meet their quotas, how deals take too long to close, etc.

[This is to make the audience relate, show that he understands their situation. If they weren't struggling, they wouldn't be there in the first place.]
Next, he explains how he and his partners have trained tens of thousands of salespeople. All over the world, etc.

[Establishing credibility, "hey, I've seen it all, I know my stuff.]
And they've noticed something interesting. Among all the salespeople they train, some really stand out.

They close deals ten times bigger than their colleagues, and in a fraction of their time.

[Here comes the bait. Because wow, we'd all like to be like them, right?]
Now, the interesting thing that hey found is that all those top performers have one thing in common.

[One thing, eh? Wow, we really want to know about that one thing now!]
It turns out that the top performers come from all walks of life, all educational backgrounds, all industries, all levels of experience, etc.

[What he is really telling us is that it doesn't matter who we are, we can ALL be that successful.]
But they ALL have this ONE thing is in common.

[Boy, so there's only one thing that stands between us and unlimited success. And this guy on the screen in front of us has the key!]
He then launches into five minutes of vague but nice-sounding basic sales stuff, things everyone already knows and that has been said a thousand times before by a thousand other sales trainers.

[But at this point we're not really listening, we so badly want to hear THE SECRET!]
Of course the secret never comes, time is too limited to go into depth, blah, blah.

But of course these guys have developed this cool-sounding 'methodology' they teach to corporate clients worldwide for really high fees...
...but for those attending the webinar, today only, they have a special deal, etc.

Now, you're probably laughing at this point. I was. Out loud.

But the thing is people actually fall for these simple tricks. A lot of people.

Don't be like a lot of people.
