Nat'l Union of Peoples' Lawyers (NUPL) filed today petitions for writs of habeas corpus for detained Dennise Velasco and Joel Demate. Habeas Corpus means produce the body, which in this context, means release the detained.
In the petitions, the NUPL framed the cases of Velasco and Demate to ask the Supreme Court to look at two things – are the search warrants and arrest constitutional, and is the martial law-time Ilagan doctrine valid to keep the activists detained?
