Ok, soooo thoughts. https://twitter.com/aoc/status/1339352951555502082
Once again I’m breaking with the pack by not literally hating nor particularly liking AOC. I think she’s fine, but let’s take the $600.
$600 isn’t nothing. And I’m not going to say that. But after 9 months of reduced work, reduced pay, and loss of savings or in many cases, livelihoods and homes, $600 seems a bit... short.
Again, it’s not nothing, but it’s certainly not enough. And I am perfectly willing to accept that maybe the nebulous threshold of “enough” may be something that is impossible whether by budget or politics, but $600?
Now understand, I am fine. I kept my job, my family is for the most part, alive, I have a home, and was an essential worker. While this year has been shitty, but I’ve survived well. But my mind turns to the people who were not so lucky, the ones left destitute, the ones
Who lost homes, businesses, left destitute, had to pay for funerals of family despite cut hours or lost jobs. I’m imagining all of this and then being told my rescue is a $600 check. It’s kind of like busting your ass at a table as a waiter and then being tipped a penny.
A penny isn’t nothing, but there seems to be an implied insult to it.

I’ll take the $600, don’t get me wrong, but honestly, I feel some more substantial relief is going to be required for the people who lost their homes, their businesses, their jobs, and their family.
Perhaps this was all that they could get in terms of relief, and if that’s true that is... depressing. But the ultimate thesis AOC is getting at is still solid: merely voting Democrat is not enough. We have to be prepared to criticize them, and at least ask “maybe you could
Have cut us a better deal here?” I do not believe that we should be satisfied with the scraps being thrown at us while our families are dying, our businesses are closing, and our rent is due. We should demand better.
