THREAD: While Mitch McConnell and Steve Mnuchin whine about having to send us $600 in a half-assed effort to help those struggling with food and rent, this administration is about to garnish the wages of millions of Americans, including service members starting next month. 1/
As we all know, this year trump signed an executive order saying employers could have a "payroll tax holiday" (sounds SO LOVELY!!) What this did was allow businesses to stop deducting and paying into Social Security. 2/
Many employers didn't opt in, but trump FORCED military and government employees to stop paying into social security. Republicans beat their drums about this saying they were the BEST EVER and called it a PAY RAISE. 3/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/shaharziv/2020/09/08/military-forced-payroll-tax-deferment-deferral-no-opt-out/?sh=77d7241d60ad
What they didn't say out loud was that we would all have to pay that money back. Starting next month. To DFAS (Defense Financial Accounting System), which begs the question: Does the money go back to Social Security or the general fund? 4/
ADDITIONALLY, small business owners who were able to get any of the PPP loans that mostly went to wealthy corporations with tax havens to avoid paying taxes, will not be able to deduct anything they spent it on, effectively making it taxable income for 2020 5/
Anyhow, I woke up this morning with an email from DFAS saying "since we can't garnish your check because you don't work for the federal government anymore, we will be collecting on your debt to DFAS directly and not the IRS 6/
So to all the small business owners, federal government employees, and active duty military families, MERRY CHRISTMAS! You get to pay thousands in taxes NOW for your PPP loan AND they're going to start taking additional money out of your paychecks starting NEXT MONTH 7/
So while they've gutted social security, and forced us all to pay max taxes that will no doubt "trickle up" in the middle of the pandemic winter when we have record food lines and hospitalizations, they want you to thank them for your $600 8/
So, no. I have zero problem with referring to congressional republicans as fuckers. END
PS: I have no problem paying my fair share of taxes, but at the very least, a deferment is in order because of the pandemic, though I would prefer a waiver since trump and the richest assholes in the world won't be paying any taxes this year.
