what is findom: a thread where i try to clear up some common misconceptions about the kink
findom, simply put, is an abbreviation for financial domination: a fetish where a submissive will give money or gifts, called "tributes", to a financial dominant. it is usually a type of humiliation fetish, where the sub is aroused by the idea of being humiliated by a dom
this can take many different forms! some subs want to be exposed, some want to engage in tasks like dressing up in sissy clothing or writing degrading things on themselves, some may like being walked on a leash, or worshipping feet, or being verbally insulted
each client is different, and the findom tries to tailor their services to each client's needs. it's a bit different than a "sugar baby" relationship, where someone is paying for an ongoing intimate relationship. intimacy may be a part of findom but it is not always a requirement
findom is also not: a charity - sometimes finsubs are sometimes approached by people unfamiliar with the fetish with sad stories and requests for money, because they misunderstand the nature of the findom relationship
a sub does not give their money away because they feel bad for a findom (although they may take some pride in helping them) - they are essentially paying for humiliation, for you to engage with their specific fetishistic desires
it's also not: predatory - i receive dms from people who are friendly to me in public to tell me what i do is predatory and that i'm a bad person. they usually don't have much experience with the kink, and their impressions are based on either bad examples or baseless stereotypes
when i consider taking on a client, i make sure to talk in depth with them. i do a good faith effort to make sure they are of sound body and mind (not manic or drunk or suicidal), and that engaging in this would not financially endanger them
i check in with them afterward to see how they feel about a session. the last thing i would want to do is hurt or exploit someone. my clients thank me for my time and my service because i provide a valuable service to them, one that often goes on behind the scenes
you may see a picture of a tribute, but what you don't see are all the private interactions leading up to that tribute, or the type of negotiation that occurred beforehand, or really anything at all about the people involved
findom is a prenegotiated agreement between consenting adults who want to engage in humiliation and domination for fun. the men who are finsubs (it's usually men) are not being taken advantage of. they work prestigious jobs, have healthy social lives
findom can be fun, profitable, and rewarding, but it's also real work. it's not just creating an image and waiting, while people who are hopeless addicted just send all their money away for nothing in return and then regret it
it's true that some people may engage in the fetish with bad intentions - either they don't understand it, or they are malicious and want to take advantage of others. this occurs in literally every profession, because people are people
please, don't make assumptions about sex workers based on stereotypes. and yes, that includes findoms
