Not surprising but worth noting their claim pbs/csh are "the most widely accepted and preferred clinical approach in health services for transgender people around the world" is meaningless. There are times when you could have said the same about lobotomies or ECT. > https://twitter.com/EuropeanPATH/status/1339663819539439622
Two big nopes. There is no evidence that shows puberty blockers are reversible and some evidence to the contrary, and the fact 98% of kids go onto cross sex hormones pretty much shows that one stage invariable leads to the other. >
When you've got healthcare professionals who believe kids can be "trans" and that transition is their inevitable path you are definitely not going to get an "individualised approach" focused on the needs of the child. >
The "positive effects" have been hugely oversold, if they exist at all, and are rarely, if ever, discussed in a wider context - compared to self acceptance, acknowledgement of the impacts on a future self's decisions etc. >
The idea that people's bodies should be congruent with how a person feels is *exactly* the regressive, unhelpful thinking that effective mental health services should be challenging. >
Note how they switch from "child or young person" to "adolescent". Truth is 12 year olds are vastly different from 18 year olds and the judgement, unlike WPATH, takes this into account. >
"Transgender" and "cisgender" healthcare is a false dichotomy and it's totally irrelevant here when the conversation is about children and young people with gender dysphoria not adults who have decided to they want to transition. >
This statement is nothing more than ideological guff. It does not have the wellbeing/alleviation of distress in kids at its heart, rather it maintains the line to prop up regressive social beliefs, prioritise adult "identities" and (mainly US) doctors striving for fame/fortune.
