Latest on Brexit talks on @BBCNews at 10 in a minute and more with me, @adamfleming and @ChrisMasonBBC later on #bbcnewscast but a few quick thoughts...
1. Both sides still want a deal for a long list of familiar reasons, and there has been progress after very sticky moments in the last 10 days
2. Both sides still do (just) have time to get a deal agreed and rushed through Parliaments - by early hours of Sunday it can be done before Christmas, then perhaps even if agreement as late as Christmas Eve it can be done before the deadline on 31st
3. It's in neither sides' interest to make it look like this process has been easy - and before you scream, of course, both sides spin but....... it would be a mistake to assume that all the howls of protest are an act
4. It's not just fishing, which remains a problem, - there's been a real issue over state aid in last few days - real concern on UK side that EU was suggesting huge exemptions for the union to be able to prop up industry if it was acting as a bloc
5. Remember the number of people who really know what's going on is extremely small - but there is a sense in govt the chance of no deal has been under priced, because history has so often repeated itself, 'victory' always snatched from the jaws of last minute defeat
6. So.. is it going to happen? History suggests yes. One Cabinet minister today says 'I'm sure rational heads will prevail', possibly, yes, it will all be done on Saturday, then rammed through parliament and 'over' by the end of play on Tuesday
