So, I know that the last few weeks for the Chicago Bears have been a roller coaster and it's led to a fracture in Bear fans. Some want the Bears to keep playing for wins and others want them to lose for a better draft pick. The worst the Bears can finish now is at (Cont)
or around 10, given that they beat the Jaguars. A lot of fans were angry because they won't be high enough to draft a top QB, and most wanted that to happen. So I went through QBs that have started games this season and broke it down into categories based on draft location (Cont)
According to Pro-Football Reference, there have been 47 QBs that have started a game in the NFL during the 2020 season. I have decided to break them into QBs drafted between picks 1-9 (where the Bears cannot pick), 10th through 32nd, 2nd Round, 3rd through 7th Round (cont)
and Undrafted. Of the 47, 18 are picked between 1-9. 7 were selected between 10th and 32nd. 6 were 2nd rounders, 12 were drafted between rounds 3 and 7. 4 were undrafted. Overall, 20 of the 47 QBs currently have a winning record, 2 are at .500. and 25 have losing records (cont)
Starting with the 1-9 group (18) overall record of 95-97, 50% of them currently have a winning record , 44% are at a losing record and 6% at .500 (Cam). 4 of them are not on the team that drafted them (Cam, Smith, Tannehill, Rivers) they have a record of 28-15. (cont)
The next group, 10-32 (7), is where the Bears will likely be drafting in the draft, and has the best overall return. This group has an overall record of 48-33 and 3 of these QBs have 10+ wins. Only 3 have a losing record (Flacco, Watson, Bridgewater). (Cont)
Next group is 2nd Round picks (6) and they currently have results equal to the picks 1-9 with 50% currently having winning records (Hurts is at 1-0). 3 are not with the team that drafted them (Garoppolo, Dalton, Brees). Bears have a good chance at a QB in this range. (Cont)
The last two groups do not yield positive results. There are 16 players in the 3rd-7th and Undrafted category combined. Only 25% of them have a winning record in 2020 (Brady, Wilson, Fitzpatrick, Hill) of the 75% with losing records, Bears QB Nick Foles is one. (Cont)
In conclusion, The Bears don't need to be drafting inside the top 10 to have a shot at a QB that can yield a winning record (Even though Trubisky currently has one). If the Bears want to move on and start over following the season, a QB in round 1 or 2 have similar (cont)
