Why does Tharn Love Type?

A personal opinion thread, inspired by this quote of   @gulfkanawut and his (initial) wonder of what made our favourite fictional boneheads fall in love with eo.

Am sure lot of us hav wondered abt this too! Even Mew has said in his interviews that he cd not quite get why Tharn loves Type so deeply, from the time when the latter was, well, an a$$hole. Who committed hate crimes. And later, tried to 2-time Tharn, kneed him in the nuts, etc.

TharnType is an unpretentious treasure hunt. The longer you play, the more riches you find. Especially for an abuse survivor like me, the reward is amazing - a hopeful representation that a lasting, passionate union CAN arise from apparent tragedy.
Disclaimer: No one can hav a single answer to why we feel attracted to a less-than ideal person or why we sometimes feel insanely drawn to some people, even when they don't reciprocate equally. Even longterm couples cannot articulate why exactly they remain in love with their SO!
Bcos we don't always fall in love after ticking a list!

That said, as per novel+show canon, Tharn is a 'giver'. He gives and gives (yeah I know this hits 🥺), likes taking care of his lovers. So vulnerable, pineapple-skinned Type could hav appealed to his fixer-upper tendencies.
For any analysis, the repeat question 'Why' is important. *WHY* is Tharn a giver?

Humans operate by our very own style/rules of attractions. One size DOES NOT fit all, though certain emotional patterns & physical requirements are universal bcos they r based on typical core needs.

But who customised our style of love? Was it just us?

There are a few answers:
- physical makeup
- the kind of upbringing we had
- societal conditioning
- exposure to certain stuff at a key age
- dogma/vested education
- economical reality
- Past/present trauma

(am sure there r more) Usually it's 2 or more of the above that create our style of attraction.

A number of permutations & combinations - including concepts like fate, timing! but also status, looks and freedom of expression - work in favour or against us, when it comes to meeting the people we want to mate with, emotionally, physically, socially.

What made Tharn a giver?
Was it the way he learned his 'lesson' from his love failures, to just give & not expect much in return? Did Tharn's past pain make him more understanding faen, to be able to deal with a traumatised tsunami like Type?

The one thing life eventually teaches all of us is tolerance.
So, to me, it makes sense that our person out there will not just love us for our +es but also will forgive us for- or even help us overcome our -ses.

Not all r'ships are identical matches. They can't be, bcos humans are constant works in progress & cannot be perfect from Day 1.
Some r'ships are about finding that person who is so different from you, they fill the exact shape of what you lacked when they burst into ur life.

That's why Tharn & Type were fated to be together, bcos of this exact Yin & Yang dynamics!

If Tharn is a giver, Type is a taker.
*WHAT* made Type a taker?

Is it bcos as an only child, he was selfish? Or bcos the trauma he faced at 11 left him so scarred, made the hole in his soul so big that he needed unlimited, unconditional love & patience?

Whatever it was, guess who had that & more to give Type, 24/7?
In a IRL r'ship, just taking alone is not ok. It's unhealthy & can lead to toxicity. But in the TharnType dynamics, both of them came pre-wired to fulfill each other's deficit! That's why they were drawn to eo & could not stay away from eo, despite seemingly insurmountable odds.
Also, never forget: Type & Tharn were on the road to a deep friendship in the 3 weeks before Techno outs Tharn.

That's 21 days of interacting with a guy who looked like this & showed his most charming, soft self to Tharn bcos cough*Type too liked Tharn from the first*cough 🤗
Tharn fell for Type in those 3 weeks (novel readers will recognise this as canon). When Type revealed himself to be a homophobic a$$, Tharn did grow a horn or two to deal with it, but cooled down immediately once he realised that Type had hidden scars, and wanted to help him.
So, Tharn fought for his initial love. Bcos he believed in the Type he saw for the first three weeks (JMO!).

That's something that goes along with a 'giver' profile... they give so much, their life is invested so deeply, they will not quit easily. They will fight until the end.
That's why Tharn has infinite patience for Type, even after 7 years. Bcos it's not just abt whether the other person deserves it. It's about what YOU want to be to YOUR person - a pillar of strength. Even when the other person acts out, the pillar cannot. It will remain solid.
That's why I love Tharn... We all would be so lucky to have such a person as our SO!

And also, I feel a tad annoyed at the show for giving us a charactar THIS perfect. Real life is rarely this ideal: Like, how often does one find their soulmate in their college roomie?!

Bah 😏
But perhaps that's why we love Tharn & Type. They are v flawed characters who find ways to heal eo bcos they fit eo like a puzzle piece. At the risk of unleashing Jerry Maguire on the fandom, they complete eo!

Probably not a impressive encore, but who said love is logical huh 😇
