I’ve taught plenty of excellent graduate students who, for whatever reason (maturity, money, family situation) started their educational journey at a community college. They aren’t slow learners.

And I’ve known a lot of people who wasted time and money at a four year college they weren’t ready to attend. What this jerk is privileging isn’t academic performance but a speculative admission decision.

And I’ll give you a perfect example. Geolocation Jesus himself, @DaveSchmerler, who started at a CC before finishing at @Illinois_Alma and then @MIIS. He’s only one of the best geospatial analysts on earth.

It takes some people time to find their way. That doesn’t mean they are stupid. Life is long and it’s not always the bright young things at 18 who produce the most interesting or lasting work.
