In March, when everything was very bad in NYC, somebody stole PPE from my neighbor, an ER nurse. The hospital was low and her family had sent it to her.
She left a note on the door of our building saying that things were bad and how sad she was that someone stole her package full of masks and gloves, and left her apartment number in case someone wanted to return it.
I had made a funfetti cake the day before so I left her a piece in a tupperware with an offer to watch for future packages, because I live on the first floor.
We exchanged numbers, puzzles, notes. When the restaurants started opening we grabbed a drink.
We've both adopted puppies, we see each other going to and from the dog park all the time.
The other day before it got too cold and snowy we played cornhole across my backyard.
Today, she got the vaccine and texted me a photo. I didn't cry when I saw the photos of the first vaccines, though I know many people did. I cried today.
