Starting tomorrow rapid testing in Alberta is being expanded to long-term care and designated supportive living facilities.

Rapid tests help identify cases of #COVID19AB faster, so the infected person can isolate sooner, and reduce the risk that they’ll infect others. 1/5
Using the Abbott IDNow and PanBio COVID-19 testing kits means we can identify positive cases within hours.

Alberta will also be adding rapid testing units at 25 rural hospitals in the north, central and south zones. 3/5
Alberta’s testing capacity has been one of our greatest strengths, with more than 2.5 million tests completed on over 1.5 million Albertans.

The expansion of rapid testing will free up lab capacity and reduce turnaround times for PCR tests across the province. 4/5
I’d like to thank Dr. Stokes from @AHS_media and Sandra Clarkson from the @calgarydropin for joining me at today’s announcement.

I’d also like to thank the staff working hard in our assessment centres and the lab staff for processing the samples as fast as they can. 5/5
