Ok look
First: at the absolute least, ignoring for the sake of argument the fact that cultural genocide exists, it is an act of ethnic cleansing combined with deliberate destruction of the culture of Iberian Jews at the time. https://twitter.com/nikkodesu_/status/1339638371614912514
Second: while cultural genocide is not synonymous with the actual physical annihilation of entire peoples by murdering them, *it is still considered genocide*.

Third: the Spanish Inquisition totally persecuted and murdered Conversos for continued practice of Judaism.
In fact, the Spanish crown apparently had a habit of encouraging Conversos to set up trade networks in their expanding colonies and then as soon as they didn't need them anymore oh hey here comes the Inquisition!
Making charitable assumptions about @nikkodesu_ 's intent, I understand that people struggle to express the idea there are gradiations of genocide.

But cultural genocide - as the deliberate reshaping of Iberian culture to make practicing Judaism impossible was - is genocide.
Spain's history is long, multifaceted, and contains much to admire, including a history of diversity. In this it is not dissimilar to many other countries complicit in antisemitic and colonial ethnic cleansing and genocide.

It is, however, absolutely guilty of genocide.
We can't introduce the idea of cultural genocide, the active program to wipe out another culture against its will and replace it with your own, into our theories of law and crime against humanity and only apply it to modern states. It occurred a lot in history.
Let's actually just out and say it:

Cultural genocide was a surprisingly normal part of the ancient and medieval worlds, and was actively pursued by many empires in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Cultural synthesis and shifts happen. No culture is *guaranteed* a future, and the tides of history mean people adopt new ways.

But if this idea - that many empires sought to destroy harmless minority cultures they felt had no place in their realm - fills you with horror? Good.
