1/7 The coal that will be extracted at Dewley Hill is thermal coal, a type of coal that is not suitable for the production of steel.
2/7 There are plenty of stockpiles of coal in the UK, much more than can ever be burned here as the government pledged to phase out electricity generated from coal by 2025.
3/7 The more coal we dig up, the more will be burned contributing to climate catastrophe, so we should stop digging and importing coal NOW!
4/7 The destruction of the environment and communities’ health is not an investment.
5/7 Banks Group won’t provide new jobs in the area as experienced workers will be drafted in from nearby mines that have been closed.
6/7 If jobs are lost, Banks Group are to be blamed for not transitioning to renewables and for not supporting their workers. There is no future in coal mining.
