A thread on why I think Luka Doncic will win MVP this season:
It’s very rare that players 3peat MVPs. The last time it happened was with Bird when he did it in 84, 85 & 86. If it hasn’t happened to players that have been winning championships and finals MVPs I don’t think it’s gonna happen to someone who’s never been to the finals before.
LeBron is coming off the shortest off season in history and going in as hard as he can in the regular season at an MVP level wouldn’t be beneficial for him and the Lakers, who’s clear goal is going back-to-back
KD is coming back from a torn Achilles and going from that to an MVP level season is a lot to ask. We are still not sure what team Harden is going to end up on and have no clue how him and Wall will do together
As for Steph he’s also coming off a year away from basketball and there will be no Klay next to him this season. If he manages to carry the Warriors to a top 5 seed and still average good numbers then he’s for sure in the conversation for MVP. I just think that is very unlikely
I know it was only one round but Luka has just come off putting up a clinic against the Clippers who were the supposed favourites. He averaged 31pts 10reb 9ast shooting 50% from the field and 36% from three.
He had a playoff performance for the ages in game 4 dropping 43pts 17reb 13ast and topped it off with a buzzer beating game winner. The Clippers simply had no answer for him and he did the majority of this damage in the series without his running-mate Porzingis
The mavs were one win short of the 4th seed last season. This was with our two main stars missing a combined 22 games in the regular season. The mavs used the off-season to get some ‘dogs’ in and improve on D
Yes we could’ve had a better off-season but as said before, we were one win short of the 4th seed. I think the Mavs will be a top 5 seed this season and Luka is bound to improve on his 29pts 9reb 9ast average last season, and that’s why I think he will win MVP this season
