As the recipient of the Premier’s latest round of unfounded insults, I thought I would offer a short thread. This was regarding the Friday prorogation—that’s right, the ceremony that ensures that we have no representative government. #nspoli
Despite weeks of planning, the Premier sent a letter to the House leaders Tuesday night asking that the ceremony be virtual. Speaker later confirmed he hadn’t been asked, and planned to hold the ceremony on person. No explanation of how this would be done virtually was offered.
We oppose prorogation. It is a cowardly and unnecessary move. Every other legislature in the country has sat through the pandemic. Today we heard of hundreds of millions of appropriations made with no oversight.
We have weathered the pandemic well. Our leadership can take some credit for that. But at the same time they are damaging the very foundation of our democratic systems.
Please don’t mistake outcome with process. We have a Premier that sees no need for accountability, who has said that debate in the legislature is counterproductive, and whose Ministers (including those running to replace him) have been invisible for the past year.
That’s not representative democracy. Please care about this. Especially if you are a Liberal. Demand better.
