If Twitch could add an Identity Settings section to the profile settings page, I would want it to look like this. You could add identities and expressions (cough #Transtagwhen cough) , pronouns, and even more robust accessibility flags and content warnings.
Imagine actually being able to search for and find the type of content you want. Sure you might want to watch someone cooking but you want someone you can relate to because representation absolutely matters. So now you can find a trans cooking stream with closed captions. 😎
Tell me how this isn't profitable? It would lead to ridiculously higher engagement because people would feel like they actually belong instead of being funneled into only a few different streams due to their voices being so much louder.
Ask any trans streamer I've hung out with just how much support I throw them. Its because I feel welcome there, I feel heard and seen. I have spent more money because I am represented by those people.
Also the nice thing about having these bound to the profile is that it encourages more community around viewers and opens up the potential to do more with communities of viewers which is another area I think Twitch is missing the mark on.
Content warnings are another feature that I have not seen utilized and instead are up to the content creator to add to their title. I hate that I have to add {Stream Title} | Trans | CW: {some content warning} to my titles because it is so cumbersome.
The accessibility option for flashing effects would prompt a screen similar to the "This Channel Is Intended for Mature Audiences" dialog that has to be closed out. This would help save people from potential seizures and migraines caused by those types of effects.
There would also be individual tags for BIPOC and disability based identities but I didn't add those in my example since I don't fall under either and I don't see a reason to add "white/caucasian" especially since there is already way too representation in that area.
I just wanted to acknowledge that since representation matters and because my example didn't explicitly contain those since it was more of options that apply to me for demo purposes.
Don't forget to RT and @ Twitch or something, hecc Idk. Maybe one day they'll actually reply with something meaningful or hire me to fix their shit.
Until we get a trans tag, the best we can do are threads like these, feel free to add yourself and share to keep the list alive. https://twitter.com/LuciaEverblack/status/1336708578183438338
