There must be some mistake. I'm reliably told he is caving because Georgia. https://twitter.com/scottwongdc/status/1339593047365959694
I feel like The Narrative is weirdly resistant to the fact that this agreement is happening because Ds came down to where Rs were always prepared to deal. https://twitter.com/lpdonovan/status/1336406335043284996
It's unfortunate that it took five mos and the lapse of a slew of important programs to come around to the reality that everybody could live with a targeted package, because (obviously) something is better than nothing. https://twitter.com/lpdonovan/status/1291892716805271554
A lot of the current discourse, GA included, is the left processing the wobbliness of two strongly held priors: that McConnell was the problem all along, and that Rs are so determined to sabotage Biden that they'll never agree to relief of any kind, (even what they proposed.)
So if that no longer tracks, something else must have changed. He's scared of losing the majority! Nevermind that A) their insistence on at targeted approach was (at the very least) not punished by voters, and B) any "sabotage" was applied to Trump as well.
Which is to say that the up/downside of the fate of a broader deal is questionable, and that maybe, just maybe, they actually believe this austerity stuff, for better or worse.
