This @MorningConsult interactive is a fun recap of 2020's often not-so-fun news. I'm taking the specific numbers with a grain of
, but lots of interesting takeaways for me... THREAD BELOW

1) With everything that happened in 2020, more people heard "a lot" about Kobe Bryant's death than any other news this year, followed by George Floyd's killing. (Last year's #1 was Hurricane Dorian and 2018's was the Parkland shooting.) Disasters/deaths get people talking (2/5)
2) The only news GOPs heard about >20% more than Dems was Trump's SOTU address. But there were more than a dozen such events the other way, including 45 not committing to leaving office peacefully, 45's "proud boys" remarks, 45's disinfectant presser... you see the pattern (3/5)
3) Just over half of people (54%) heard "a lot" about the U.S. calling a national emergency for COVID-19, which shows to me how slow our country was at getting information out to the public about the virus's severity (4/5)
4) A sickening story that seemed woefully under-the-radar (only 16% had heard a lot about it) was the alleged forced hysterectomies of migrant women in a detention centre, so I'll share that here (5/5) https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-54160638
