Unicef UK, Funding of UK Food Programmes.... a đŸ§”.

In August, at Unicef UK, we took the decision to make ÂŁ740k available to community food programmes. The second round of those grants were made available for application in November. https://twitter.com/UNICEF_uk/status/1339579425483083776
We did so because we knew we needed to do something to help children in the UK given the unprecedented scale of the pandemic and due the fact that no one organisation, government or individual could act alone to protect every child.
Unicef UK has been working in the UK for +25 years', transforming how health visitors and hospitals work with babies and new mums, empowering schools to teach children about their rights and supporting Local Authorities to transform services to help children.
Despite this experience & tireless work, we knew that local community orgs were best placed to use the funding to help children in their communities. We also knew the food system was struggling due to the devastating impact of the pandemic. That's why we partnered with Sustain.
The grants make up an overall small amount, designed to work alongside wider support being made available by the UK Government.

It doesn't detract in the slightest from the amazing work my colleagues are already doing in 190+ countries UNICEF works in (😍) incl. the UK!
Believe me when I say, there isn't *an ounce* of politics in this work, if you look beyond the headlines it's just good will and a desire to work together to support children and families through these difficult times.
