I wanted to say something about Liz Truss's announcement on equalities and have thought about it for 12 hours but honestly I still can't fathom what on earth they are on about. Policy sounds like it was created by a computer randomly putting together words from Spiked articles
I mean, they aren't really saying get rid of laws against sex/race/nationality/age etc discrimination are they? They aren't. And socio-economic inequality is hardly a right wing panacea, though usual argument over equality of outcome vs opportunity. What's it all about Liz?
And yes we shouldn't divide people by identity. But not sure vaguely threatening to remove equalities protections which every other developed democracy has is best way to fight division. And "fashionable" causes... well... this is just such a trivial objection to important issues
I have read this https://www.gov.uk/government/news/fight-for-fairness-speech-to-set-out-governments-new-approach-to-equality
I think that the point being made is that socio-economic inequality is a major driver of disadvantage and discrimination.
A completely orthodox point - indeed the Equality Act has an as yet untriggered socio economic duty.

The fact that the government has to wrap up a fair point about inequality which is a continuation and confirmation of existing equalities thinking in snarky culture war points is a sign of weakness not strength.
I mean, what is she on about here? Who? Where? When? Name names!

One of the reasons the Conservatives are bad on equalities and human rights is that they wrongly see them as political not moral arguments. They need to get over that, it's not helping
Really good by @stephenkb which sets out what I was thinking better than I managed to https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk/2020/12/there-s-not-much-s-new-about-liz-truss-s-new-approach-equality-issues
