What’s been a trip for me, is how many people made this about Jimmy Dore. I’ve seen many Black socialist and communist demand health care and called AOC out for months with detailed threads. Plus the exclusion of Justin Jackson, who’s also been calling people out. https://twitter.com/richimedhurst/status/1339452290164514823
I remember hearing an activist say, “You can always tell who people are in community with by how they frame their arguments.” Damn if that hasn’t shown to be correct. It’s as if I imagined all those nurses who’ve been marching and lobbying for M4A the past few years.
The past few months I’ve joined orgs, started reading books from reading lists Black socialist and communists suggested, did Zoom meetings with leaders to learn more, etc. and none of these people know who the fuck Jimmy Dore is, nor do they care.
What he said wasn’t original, wasn’t controversial, and wasn’t the only person who suggested we press this progressive caucus to use their leverage against Pelosi. The Black Panther Party so many of y’all love to quote had health care as a right as part of their platform.
I don’t usually say things like this, but damn y’all need to start reading, following, listening to and supporting Black community organizers. It is clear y’all are NOT. It’s also clear many of you have NOT done any readings beyond tweet threads.
I’ve done reading list threads but, starting here is good. Black Marxism by Cedric J. Robinson. The book is right here, so there shouldn’t be an accessibility issue, but if so, hmu and I’ll find you other options. https://libcom.org/files/Black%20Marxism-Cedric%20J.%20Robinson.pdf
