1. Two movies and what they portend for the future if we don't change things.

THREAD

In the movie the Truman Show, a boy was adopted by a corporation who created an entire world for him to live in, while everyone outside of it watched on TV. https://twitter.com/PersuasionRisng/status/1339547069154025472
2. Truman eventually fell in love with one of the actresses who let him in on the secret.

The second movie is The Village. Four billionaire families, beset by personal tragedies, bought a large area of land and created a no-electronics village inside it surrounded by a forest.
3. The families became the "elders" of the village and had two generations inside while the rest of the world advanced technologically.

To keep people from leaving the village, they said the forest was haunted and staged scary appearances of monsters to keep people in.
4. We pity the villagers for being so simple, but our banking, personal communication, and news are all virtual at this point.

The internet providers and tech companies are capable of changing the messages their systems carry.

Consider how effective fake news has been.
5. In Japan a few years ago it was revealed that a popular singer wasn't in fact human but was completely computer generated.

No one knew.

So let's combine all these ideas into one possible scenario.
6. The elites could, by making everything electronic and run through the systems they control, create separate zones where truth is determined by availability of information, which they control.

You could have one geographic zone devolve back into a low-technology era, while...
7. ...another only has information on one religion, say Mormonism or Islam.

They could create multiple "Villages" or "Truman Show Zones" anywhere they wanted.

Zones could be used to test human behavior, manipulation techniques, or genetic testing.
8. And those inside wouldn't know they were in a deliberately engineered subset of human knowledge.

The single biggest way to make sure information remains open is to end censorship, particularly by tech companies.

That is a hill many of our ancestors were willing to die on.
