I'm so over politicians talking about ppl who wouldn't go to work during the pandemic because they were making more on unemployment than if they went to work.
I'd like to see politicians remember that they are elected by the ppl & perhaps treat their constituents with respect. /1
There's the basic argument that the US is really fucked up because there were ppl receiving extended pandemic unemployment who WERE making more than what they make at work.
We've been trying to raise min wage to $15/hr for a decade - w/o taking inflation into account! /2
Which means by the time min wage IS $15/hr, it will need to be $20+ to pay rent, groceries, utilities ... basic expenses.
During the pandemic, the ppl I knew who were getting extended unemployment & making more than through work still would have loved to go back to work ... /3
But there were often big issues: work was dangerous, as their employers were not protecting them from Covid, and/or child care/school.
Were they happy for the extra $? Hell yes, especially since at least one of them had to buy school supplies for home. /4
This is not a stimulus package. This isn't a recovery package. This is a lifeline, but only a bandaid. At least it will help keep 13+ MILLION people from becoming houseless. Ppl who a year ago were firmly & comfortably in their homes & jobs, about to be houseless /5
Politicians show no respect or empathy for the ppl who put them in office.
Its especially frustrating because I would always vote against those fucking Republicans anyway. I don't know how to do MORE to vote them out.

To the politicians who are NOT helping constituents: fuck off, you fucking fuckers. No one can financially plan for a pandemic. Other governments are doing so much more than ours.
After all these months, they're going to pass a bandaid bill or two at the last minute. /fin
