In 2021, the one thing I want people who are aspiring to be something to do differently is to change their identity.
I am no longer an aspiring developer...
I AM a developer.
I AM a writer.
I AM a product designer.
I AM a runner.

Changing your identity and believing you are something will make you adopt the behaviours required to become that identity.
You'll intentionally start doing the habits required, no questions asked.
If you are a writer, you'll write
If you are a developer, you'll develop

If you are a writer, you'll write

If you are a developer, you'll develop

This harnesses the power of affirmations. Believing something is going to happen, you instinctively create actions that will bring around its truth.
“I believe in putting a rocket of desire out into the Universe. And you get it when you believe it.” @jimcarrey

This however is more than just woo woo.
Being positive about something will change your mindset, and telling yourself that you WILL be an identity that seemed out of reach will become possible by making small incremental changes.

As @jamesclear said - "If you get one percent better each day for one year, you'll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done."
Having a different identity allows you to incorporate behaviours you might not have otherwise done.
30 minutes a day of coding, 30 of writing, 30 of running.
And consistently getting incrementally better at what you aspire to be will allow you to become that identity.
